Thomas arrived with his family and bought Fremantle Lot 332 and built a home for the family. He worked together with William Withnell for Captain John Bamber. Sadly Thomas died of dysentery 3 November 1831 leaving Ellen to cope with their children. His Fremantle town lot was inherited by his son William. Ellen remarried Edward Gallop 24 June 1837 at Guildford. They farmed for a few years at Guildford. This marriage and farm were not successful so Ellen moved to York to be with her oldest daughter Margaret who by now was married to John Lott. She later helped son William develop a property 'Culbernine' at Meckering where the Kelly descendants continue to farm in 2003. Thomas Kelly moved to New South Wales after his marriage to Mary Cook in 1854.
