John married Martha Thompson 24 January 1819 at Ipswich, Suffolk, England. They brought in a nursemaid Mary Thomson (who married Strudwick). Employed by JR Phillips in 1834. John died 31 December 1837 at Fremantle. Martha carried on the business as a boarding housekeeper. Martha died at the home of her son-in-law Anton Helmich 12 June 1870 at Perth.
