Granted 1373 acres. John was a carpenter and builder and had a temporary appointment as a surveyor in 1829. He was a commissariat clerk and storekeeper until 1831. He was the first Colonial Government schoolteacher 18 October 1830 and opened a private school at Fremantle 1834 and later at Guildford. John was discharged from the government service for being drunk. He departed the Colony per the 'Shepherd' on 29 March 1837 bound for Mauritius.
