John married widow Caroline Wintle (nee Davies) 22 June 1850 at Guildford. She arrived in the ship 'Elizabeth' 10 January 1846. Caroline was born c1821. Step-daughter Caroline Smith-Wintle arrived with mother Caroline. (Her father Walter Wintle died on the voyage to the Colony). Caroline Smith died 20 January 1877 and John died at Dongara 3 May 1888.
