Jesse Woods was widowed in January 1825 and came out to the Swan River Colony as one of Captain Thomas Bannister's servants on the 'Atwick' in October 1829, leaving his son John and daughter Caroline with his relatives in Sullington, Sussex. When Captain Bannister returned to England in 1835, Jesse asked him to bring his son John out to the Colony on the 'Hero' in 1837. John is listed in the 1837 Census. After Captain Bannister's final return to England, Jesse worked as a shepherd and/or labourer. Jesse Woods died of general debility at York on 3 June 1865. Jesse's brother William Woods and his wife Louisa (nee Charman) and their four children had also left the Sullington area as part of Colonel Latour's group of indentured servants and had arrived in WA on the Lotus on 6 October 1829.
