Appointed to Surveyor General's Office in 1829. In December 1831, Raphael accompanied Ensign Dale surveying the Stirling Range area. Departed for Van Diemens Land in July 1832 on the 'Mary Ann'. He must have returned, as he proposed bringing stock from New South Wales on 23 May 1834 in return for a land grant. By 1846 he was at Toodyay on Dr R Foley's grant with stock. He also applied for a Parkhurst boy to assist him. Raphael eventually settled in Sydney where he worked as an engraver until his death in 1849. Further Reading: WA Explorations
