Frederick was part of Thomas Peel's Swan River Settlement Scheme. He was released from his indenture on 14 July 1830 but did not leave until January 1831 per 'Eagle'. He had a plot of land in Fremantle (Lot 273) but this reverted to the Crown in August 1841 due to non payment of fees. He married Sarah Wise in Hobart on 21 February 1831. Sarah arrived at the Swan River Settlement on the 'Gilmore' then left for Hobart per 'Eagle' with Frederick on 17 January 1831. She and Frederick had 10 children before her death in 1854. He married for a second time to Mary Maguire in 1856 and had 9 more children. Frederick and his two brothers set up the Derwent Nursery and another nursery in Sandy Bay, Hobart.
