Enlisted in the 26th Regiment in October 1811 at the age of 11 years. Variously a Private, Bugler and Sergeant in the 21st Regiment of the Royal North British Fusiliers. He received his discharge in the Colony 14 July 1841. James died at Perth 15 July 1841. His wife Ellen married a second time to Samuel Millington in 1843. Refer: 'Conquest & Settlement' by G.
