John arrived with his brother George. Their parents John and Ann arrived later on the ship 'Mary and Jane' in October 1841. John Sewell leased a block of land from Capt JS Roe which he cropped in partnership with his friend Sam Barker. He moved to Beverley to occupy a grant of land called 'St Aubyns'. It was here he met Ann Susanna Parker and they married 9 September 1840 at York. Following the marriage they moved to Northam. John remained in farming and the couple raised thirteen children. They later moved to Wandering and then to Pingelly. John died 16 January 1901 at Pingelly aged 87 years and Ann died 20 November 1916 also at Pingelly. Many of their descendants are still farming to this day.
