Married c1821 in England. Came to Fremantle with his wife Sarah (Jackaman) and children Caroline and Ambrose on the 'Marquis of Anglesea' as servants to RA Partridge. Owned Perth Town Lot G4 located on St George's Terrace close to the corner of William Street and had a butchering business situated on this site. Thomas was killed in a altercation with some of the whalers from the 'Elizabeth' in the street and laneway adjacent to Habgood's store on the 17 May 1839 (Perth Gazette May 15 and 18 1839, page 79, 83 and 84). This was the excerpt taken out of the Perth Gazette page 79 - 1839, 'Accidental Death: Thomas Porley died last night from an accidental blow received in a squabble with some of the whalers belonging to the Elizabeth whaling ship. An inquiry will most probably be instituted into the circumstances of this occurrence, when we shall make a point of giving the full particulars. Since writing the foregoing we have heard that an inquiry took place this morning before the sitting Magistrates at Perth, when the person who struck Porley was fully relieved from any guilty intention to injure the deceased he having acted in self defence'. His daughter and only surviving child Caroline married Edmund Wright who arrived on the James Pattison on the 19 August 1834. Sarah died 18 October 1882 at York.
