Joseph was granted 675 acres on the Murray River (East Coolup). The grant was relocated down stream from Pinjarra. The family established a mill 'Coopers Mill' on an island at the mouth of the Murray River. Joseph was tragically killed in November 1847 when he was thrown from the bullock cart in which he was travelling and was crushed by one of the wheels passing over him. He died before reaching Fremantle. The family is well documented in Ronald Richard's book 'Mandurah and the Murray'.
