Thomas was brought out by the Children's Friend Society and was employed by the Government Resident at Bunbury for about twenty years. Thomas married Selina Gardiner (born 1830) on 7 January 1849. Selina arrived in the ship 'Trusty' 1842 with her parents Reuben and Anne. Selina died 11 January 1874 (buried at Bunbury) and Thomas died 17 May 1897 at Donnybrook.
