Married 1806 Northern Ireland. In 1829, James accompanied Mark Currie and Dr Charles Simmons to an area south of Fremantle. Had Perth Lots L57 and L58 in 1832. As Government Naturalist (without pay) he collected some 48,000 plant specimens. Granted 5000 acres. James died 27 March 1863 Scotland. There is a book written by Rica Erickson (1969) called the 'Drummonds of Hawthornden'.
